We believe that all individuals should have access to quality healthcare

In Lebanon, health services for impoverished and marginalized groups are often dispersed and severely under-resourced, with development aid facing fragmentation due to a lack of coordination among donors and providers.

Moreover, the health sector is largely privatized. While 50% of the population has medical insurance, the other half relies on Ministry of Health reimbursements for a part of their medical expenses. Unfortunately, out-of-pocket costs are increasing, rendering healthcare unaffordable for a growing number of individuals, especially those with limited financial means and those in underserved areas.

MISSION

In its commitment to assisting those in need, MFA collaborates closely with Makassed General Hospital (MGH) and Makassed Health Care Bureau (MHCB) in Lebanon. MFA strives to provide affordable, high-quality primary, secondary and tertiary medical care, addressing the diverse range of physical, mental, and emotional health challenges faced by marginalized populations.

Over the years, MGH – located in Beirut’s impoverished neighborhood of Tarik Al-Jadideh – has significantly expanded both in size and reputation for excellence. The hospital stands as a comprehensive healthcare provider, offering a full range of inpatient, outpatient, and emergency medical services. In the year 2022 alone, MGH extended medical care to more than 15,000 inpatients and 60,000 outpatients.

With the infrastructure to support a highly qualified staff comprising 150 medical specialists, licensed physicians, 400 dedicated nurses, and 350 administrative professionals, MGH has established itself among Lebanon’s premier medical facilities. It holds a prestigious Class A rating from the Ministry of Public Health and maintains ISO and HACCP certifications, underscoring its commitment to quality control and the sanitation of facilities and equipment.

MGH plays a pivotal role in medical education, offering postdoctoral medical and fellowship training programs for physicians through affiliations with the American University of Beirut (AUB), the Beirut Arab University (BAU), as well as with Lille University in France.

MFA actively supports MGH in its mission to assist patients in need, providing crucial medicines and supplies, contributing to the Cancer Fund as well as aiding in the purchase of hospital beds and the renovation of hospital rooms.
